“Town Power: Getting Lower Energy Rates Through Deals With Suppliers” (Hartford Courant)

< Go back

“Though Connecticut residents have had the choice of energy suppliers since 2000, consumers have yet to switch to lower rates in droves. The most recent count shows that half of the state’s 1.4 million ratepayers have their electricity generated by the state’s utilities, rather than other suppliers that offer lower prices per kilowatt hour. Municipalities around the state are signing endorsement deals with energy suppliers, making them the town’s preferred source of energy. The town gets a lower electricity rate. The supplier gets a marketing partner that residents trust — their hometown.”
