More than 185,000 visitors have checked out the state’s price-comparison tool for Ohio electricity and natural gas customers since its unveiling six months ago.

That number averages out to almost 31,000 visitors a month, a figure applauded by the Public Utility Commission of Ohio.

“There are not too many bugs or problems with suppliers getting info or anything being inaccurate,” PUCO spokesman Matt Schilling told me. “We are very happy with how it’s going.”

The PUCO unveiled the website, energychoice.ohio.gov, in February. The agency had a comparison chart before, but it was more difficult to compare prices and other factors between utilities and competitors that are useful to customers.

Notably, the Energy Choice Ohio tool allows utilities and competitors to submit their offers daily and via a portal. Previously, electric and gas companies had to email their prices to a PUCO staffer who then uploaded it to the site once a week.
